Lock Re-keying

When it comes to home security, your house’s door locks are your first line of protection.
When you purchase a new house, you must expect that the previous owners, their family/friends, the Realtor, and potentially even contractors, have access to your new home.
Rekeying your locks is a cost-effective way to keep your property safe.
What does it mean to rekey a lock?
Rekeying a lock simply requires replacing the pin tumbler.
This tumbler is located within the lock’s cylinder and utilizes pins of varying lengths to prevent the lock from being opened unless the correct key is used.
The procedure of rekeying the tumbler of an old lock so that it will take a new key is quite easy.
First, we’ll change the tumbler by replacing several of the lock pins in the cylinder.
We then make new keys to unlock your rekeyed lock.
The old keys will no longer function after the lock has been rekeyed.
Why should you get your locks rekeyed?
Rekeying your locks may be done for a variety of reasons, including:
  • I’m relocating to a new location. It would be a mistake to presume that the previous owners, renters, or landlords have given in all copies of the keys and would not abuse access to your house. Rekeying your locks ensures that your house is safe and that you are the only one who has access to the keys.
  • When someone leaves your house, rekey the locks. You have no idea how many keys your roommate has manufactured or who has them if he or she is moving out. It is critical that your locks be rekeyed so that they no longer have access to your house and belongings.
  • In the event that a key is misplaced or stolen. Having an unaccounted-for key to your house reduces your sense of security. Rekeying is a less expensive and equally secure alternative to replacing locks.
  • Having a squabble with someone who possessed a duplicate of your key. Friendships and other relationships, unfortunately, end. We recommend that you rekey all of your locks and get new keys cut if you have provided a backup key to someone with whom you no longer have a trusted connection.
However, rekeying your locks assures your home’s safety and security.
It is less costly and faster than having your locks replaced. If you live in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and want lock rekeying services, please contact Lock and Pop Inc. at (469) 807-3716.
